Pet Wellness Care at Alton Animal Clinic
Wellness care or preventative health care is a regular check-up that helps to maintain the health of your pet.
What to Expect From Wellness Care Exams?
Preventative health care is particularly important for your pet. Our veterinarians recommend that your pet receive a comprehensive physical exam at least once a year, although more frequent exams are encouraged. Physical exams are useful in detecting health problems in the early stages of the disease before they become more difficult and expensive to treat.
A comprehensive physical exam includes a weight check/body condition score, listening to your pet’s heart and lungs, checking eyes, ears, and teeth. We also check for any new lumps and check your pet’s joints for signs of pain and/or stiffness. During wellness visits, we may also perform routine blood and urine tests, as well as testing for heartworm disease, tick-borne diseases, and intestinal parasites.
Keeping Pets Protected With Vaccines
Vaccines are an important part of preventative health care. At Alton Animal Clinic, our veterinarians will offer the vaccination protocols recommended by AAHA (American Animal Hospital Association), AAFP (American Association of Feline Practitioners) and all US Colleges of Veterinary Medicine.
